Husband Christian Atsu Was a Talented Football Player

Christian Atsu Twasam (10 January 1992 – c. 6 February 2023), a Ghanaian footballer, excelled as a winger, also displaying versatility in roles like attacking midfielder and left back. 

Beginning at Porto and briefly loaned to Rio Ave, he joined Chelsea in 2013 for over $3.5 million, undertaking subsequent loans to Vitesse Arnhem, Everton, Bournemouth, and Málaga. 

His noteworthy tenure at Newcastle United, initially on loan and later a permanent transfer in 2017, marked a significant phase.

After fulfilling contracts with Al Raed in Saudi Arabia and Hatayspor in Turkey, Atsu tragically passed away at 31 during the 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquake. A seasoned international, he earned 65 caps and notably contributed to Ghana's success in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Christian Atsu Died in 2023

On 6 February 2023, Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu went missing in the aftermath of the Turkey–Syria earthquake feared trapped under rubble at Hatayspor's headquarters.

Initially reported rescued, his status became uncertain, confirmed on 18 February when news outlets reported his tragic death. Newcastle United, his former club, paid tribute during a game against Liverpool on 18 February. 

Atsu's body was flown to Ghana on 20 February, with a state-assisted funeral held on 17 March at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, followed by burial in his hometown, Dogobome in Ada Foah. A one-week observation honored him in Accra on 4 March 2023.
